Powdered milk feeding

Dairy milk feeding can be an alternative to breastfeeding when the latter cannot be done for different medical reasons or it can be alternated with breastfeeding, precisely for the baby's habit of weaning.
Powdered milk is a type of formula milk, that is, prepared in such a way as to meet the nutritional needs of a baby, in terms of the sensitivity of its digestive system and the fact that it is in full development. There are several brands of powdered milk on the market, which differ in taste - some may be bitter, others sweeter and more like breast milk.
The milk powder the baby needs needs to be indicated by the doctor. Changing the type of milk powder is done after consulting the pediatrician, because there is a risk of the baby getting damaged.
Regardless of the type of milk the baby consumes, it forms a regular meal schedule, with breaks of no more than 5-6 hours between them. It should be mentioned that the little one should be fed whenever he asks or when he seems hungry.
Remember that the state provides free milk powder, formula for infants, children aged 0-12 months who do not benefit from breast milk.
Types of milk formula
Baby milk is made in such a way that it contains all the vitamins, proteins and minerals the baby's body needs.
In the market there is milk formula:
• Already prepared - no longer involves the effort of preparation, it is sterile and helps babies with problems to gain weight, but it is the most expensive milk formula and should be consumed within two days after opening;
• Concentrated - it is easier to prepare than powdered milk and as a price to be found somewhere between the already prepared and the powdered milk, but the water and the concentrated milk are put in equal quantities during the preparation;
• Powdered milk - is the cheapest and can be used for one month after opening the packaging, but it takes longer to prepare it and you must adhere exactly to the measures indicated on the box, otherwise you can give the baby a little too diluted milk. is nutritious or too concentrated milk, which can affect the kidneys.
Water for the preparation of milk powder
For the preparation of meals always use fresh, cold water that you only boil once. Some types of water should never be used water that has been repeatedly boiled or mineral water.
Use ordinary water from the tap. At first, allow a little flow, to remove the water that was on the pipe and which may contain lead. Boil the fresh water and let it cool. Prepare everything you need before you start preparing milk (sterilized bottle and nipple).
Wash your hands gently. Measure and place the quantity of boiled and cooled water in the bottle. Add the amount of milk powder needed for this volume of water and shake the bottle well to mix. The instructions on the milk powder box will indicate the exact number of measures to be added to each water measure. It is very important to keep these proportions exactly.
Problems with feeding powdered milk
Some moms may have problems when it comes to feeding on powdered milk because babies may refuse teat or may have digestive problems.
If the baby does not tolerate lactose (sugar from natural milk), the doctor may recommend a powdered milk that does not contain this ingredient. If the baby has allergies or does not absorb the nutrients properly, you can feed him with hydrolyzed milk which breaks down the protein into smaller parts, facilitating digestion.
Powdered milk for babies born prematurely or underweight contains more protein and calories, and fat is more easily absorbed. If the baby suffers from a disease that requires special nutrition, the metabolic powder milk can be used.
Storage of unused milk
The prepared milk bottles should not be left for more than two hours if they are not put in the refrigerator and the milk left in the bottle after feeding the baby should be discarded, because the germs in the baby's saliva will multiply in milk.
The unused milk that the baby has not touched can be stored in the refrigerator from day to day. But do not scratch the milk economy, the health of the baby is more important.
Ideally, you should not use the microwave oven when heating the baby's milk. But if you do, mix the milk well when you remove it from the heater and before testing its temperature on your wrist. It often happens that after heating in the microwave oven, the food does not heat up completely, so that in some parts they are still cold and in others cold.
The opinions of the specialists
There are six main ingredients of milk powder: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. The types of milk powder differ in terms of the carbohydrates or proteins they contain.
Doctors recommend that healthy infants who are not breast-fed should receive up to 1 year of age iron-based milk powder to avoid iron deficiency anemia.
You should never add other ingredients in milk without the doctor's recommendation as this could affect the health of the baby.
Doctors say that milk can stay two hours at room temperature and 12 hours in the refrigerator, when the baby has not sucked at all from the bottle: the saliva of the baby in contact with milk creates a favorable environment for the development of bacteria, which multiply very quickly.
